Ufumene African Safaris offers far more than your typical African retreat. Ours is an immersive, intimate experience that is bound to create many cherished memories. Additionally, we offer a range of other activities to our visitors. These include:
Half-day trip, 1-hour drive from Ufumene. Immerse yourself in the diverse experiences available at this exceptional park. Select between guided game drives (wherein you can spot lions, buffalo, and other animals) or opt for a slower-paced self-drive safari. Famed for its well-maintained facilities and abundant wildlife sightings, the park also presents a wonderful opportunity to see elephants in a natural, protected environment.
Day trip, 1-hour drive from the safari lodge. Visit an old university town with some quaint shops, pubs and restaurants. And several interesting museums and sights.
WITNESS THE MAJESTIC BIG 5 IN SOUTH AFRICA
And enjoy a typical safari cookout in one of South Africa’s largest open-air lapas. Just a short drive from Port Elizabeth, Addo or Grahamstown, Schotia is a unique experience not to be missed.
A thrilling experience! Jump out of a plane 3 km high, free fall for 40 seconds with a view from the ocean to the karoo, then glide gently down back to earth.
Day trip, 1.5 hours drive from the Ufumene. Board a boat in Port Elizabeth and you will be taken out into the bay, right where whales and dolphins play. Pass a nearby island and watch what the penguins are up to.
Exploring our wildlife and stunning landscape on an e-bike along our dirt roads and trails is an excellent adventure. The nearly silent bikes minimize disruption to the animals you might see and allow you to travel further with less effort. This experience is available depending on guide availability.
From Ufumene African Safaris, venture out to explore the Daniell Cheetah Breeding Project, established in May 2001 with just three cats and now flourishing through breeding, acquisitions, and exchanges. Their mission is to contribute to cheetah conservation while educating visitors about the significance of protecting this species. They offer a unique educational tour where you can encounter six of South Africa’s seven wild cat species alongside meerkats and spotted hyenas.
Birdlife is abundant, especially in the summer when all the migrants are back. The property’s dams and water points attract water birds, and there is usually a good mix of karoo bushveld, grassland, and fynbos birds around. Three of our more interesting species for birders are Ludwig’s bustard, southern black korhaan and martial eagle – South Africa’s largest eagle.
We can bring in therapists to offer a range of massages, manicures, and pedicures, which will take place in your room. The therapists are off-site, so these experiences must be booked in advance.
South Africa’s Eastern Cape was initially inhabited by the indigenous Khoi-San people, who left a cultural imprint through their rock art scattered across the landscape. The arrival of European settlers in the 19th century brought about a transformation in land use and agriculture. During the Boer War, many military engagements took place in the area. Carene is the on-site history buff, so if you want to learn more about the area, chat with her.
