Our private African retreat is a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. Located near the iconic Grahamstown, we provide our guests with amazing opportunities to immerse themselves in the natural wonder of an authentic safari tour and to reconnect with nature.
Our lodge boasts spacious accommodations designed to offer comfort and exclusivity, all against the backdrop of the picturesque African bushveld. Whilst our range of safari experiences certainly makes us unique, there is an additional experience on offer that is guaranteed to make your stay unforgettable: One-of-a-kind hospitality.
Our dedicated game lodge team, led by Carene, are very attentive and offers the best personal service for all aspects of your experience. Guests can expect everything from special menus and flexible mealtimes to room turndowns and wake-up calls. Our staff are also employed from the local community.
Our food is very much part of our story, as no African Retreat is complete without authentic South African cuisine. Our chefs’ renowned reputations and recipes have reached far and wide.
With Carene in charge of the hospitality team, you can count on an outstanding retreat. As a dedicated host, she goes above and beyond to make sure your retreat experience is remarkable. Her high standards and keen attention to detail are unparalleled.
We take great pleasure in crafting menus that offer you a taste of the finest South African cuisine. Feast on venison, beef, karoo lamb, chicken, or pork. Other uniquely South African favourites are milk tart, bobotie and homemade biltong (like jerky – but spiced with cumin, coriander, and other top-secret ingredients).
We frequently host braais (barbecues) in our boma or on the spacious deck, where we serve specialities such as roosterkoek and boerewors, a mildly spiced farmer’s sausage
You or your partner, friends or kids can join our chefs in the kitchen if the fancy takes you and learn their recipes – or share some of your own. Your stay includes all your food and drinks.
Please advise us of any dietary requirements before your visit so we can cater to them. Note that the main dining area is inside the lodge, but you can request to dine alone or outside.
"Wonderful stay with beautiful rooms and spectacular surroundings. Delicious food, great walking tracks and wildlife!!! You will enjoy every minute of your stay!!! The pool is great, the wine is delicious, and every day there is something new to see and do while you explore the outback!"
“What an awesome Game Lodge. A true 5 star break from bright lights of city life. Loved the farm style cooking and the evenings under the stars at the fire pit. The ensuite rooms were very well fitted and super comfortable. Our whole party can't wait to go back!!!”
Our time at the Ufumene Game Ranch was simply wonderful. The lodge is very tastefully decorated. The rooms were super spacious, clean and equipped with everything you need. But the nature was even more beautiful. It was the unforgettable experiences of observing the wild animals and roaming the ranch that made our stay a very special experience. Sitting on the veranda, enjoying a gin and tonic and watching giraffes 100 meters away: simply wonderful. Our daughter in particular found it an exciting nature experience to watch the animals in the wild.
The hosts themselves are very interesting conversationalists and do everything to make the stay as enjoyable as possible. Not to mention the delicious food.
Even if the journey was a bit long: every minute was worth it. Here we were able to really switch off and arrive in Africa. We will be back!
We visited the Ufumene Game Lodge as part of our family trip and were there with 10 people. So the entire lodge was exclusively available to us. For us it was a perfect destination.
I can only agree with the previous speakers. Our 6-day stay at the Ufumene Ranch was the highlight of our SA trip.
Our family stayed overnight at Ufumene, on our way to Port Elizabeth, and everything was fantastic! The rooms were superb, the night was serene, and our teenage boys enjoyed the close proximity to the animals on the morning game drive. The service is superb, the conversations are friendly, and you feel so much at home, you would almost offer to do the dishes after breakfast! We will certainly be visiting again!
A return visit with overseas guests for a walking veld day reminded me why I love visiting this charming family run game farm. Also game viewing drives, Karoo meals, luxury accommodation, all packaged with personal attention - super
We had the most amazing experience at Ufumene Game lodge. The room was spacious and tastefully decorated, the food was amazing and we enjoyed our hot days next to the pool with delicious snacks and cocktails. We got to view some of the wildlife on the farm and the absolute serenity recharged our batteries like few things can.
